Salman Agha led Pakistan to a thrilling six-run victory against Sri Lanka in the first One-Day International at Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi on Tuesday.
Wanindu Hasaranga’s valiant all-round effort proved insufficient as Pakistan held their nerve to reach 299 for five in their 50 overs, restricting Sri Lanka to 293 for nine.
Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam provided initial stability before quick wickets threatened Pakistan’s innings. Hussain Talat and Agha combined for a match-defining partnership, with Agha remaining unbeaten on 105 from 87 balls, hitting nine fours. Mohammad Nawaz contributed a rapid 36 not out to ensure Pakistan reached a competitive total. Extras, including 13 wides, added 24 runs to Pakistan’s score.
Chasing 300, Sri Lanka fell short despite a strong 59 from Hasaranga off 52 balls. Kamil Mishara (38) and Sadeera Samarawickrama (39) also contributed valuable runs. Haris Rauf, supported by Faheem Ashraf and Naseem Shah, took key wickets at crucial stages. Extras, including 26 wides, contributed 31 runs to Sri Lanka’s innings.
