Actor and politician Hema Malini on Tuesday strongly condemned false media reports claiming that her husband and legendary Bollywood actor Dharmendra had passed away.

The veteran actress took to X (formerly Twitter) to clarify that Dharmendra, 89, is stable and recovering at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.

“What is happening is unforgivable! How can responsible channels spread false news about a person who is responding to treatment and is recovering? This is being extremely disrespectful and irresponsible. Please give due respect to the family and its need for privacy,” Hema Malini wrote.

Her statement came amid widespread speculation on social media and some TV channels incorrectly reporting the veteran actor’s death.

Esha Deol also dismisses rumours, urges privacy

Hema Malini’s remarks followed a similar statement from Esha Deol, the elder daughter of Dharmendra and Hema Malini. Taking to Instagram, Esha wrote in all caps, “The media seems to be in overdrive and spreading false news. My father is stable and recovering. We request everyone to give our family privacy. Thank you for the prayers for papa's speedy recovery."

Esha also disabled the comments section on her post to prevent further speculation or misinformation.

Sunny Deol issues official statement

Late Monday night, Sunny Deol, Dharmendra’s elder son from his first wife, Prakash Kaur, released an official statement confirming that the actor was stable and under observation.

“Mr Dharmendra is stable and under observation. Further comments and updates will be shared as available. Kindly don't indulge in spreading false rumours regarding his health. Request everyone to pray for his speedy recovery and respect the family's right to privacy,” Sunny’s statement read.

According to sources cited by NDTV, Dharmendra has been on ventilator support since November 10 after he complained of breathlessness. The veteran actor is currently being closely monitored by doctors at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital.

Family members, including Hema Malini, Sunny Deol, and Bobby Deol, as well as film stars Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Govinda, visited Dharmendra at the hospital on Monday evening after news of his health issues spread online.

Hema Malini thanks fans for prayers and support

This isn’t the first time Hema Malini has updated fans on her husband’s condition. On Monday night, she shared a post on Instagram thanking fans for their concern, writing: “I thank everyone for their concern about Dharam ji who is in hospital for observation. He is being continuously monitored and we are all with him. I request you all to pray for his welfare and speedy recovery.”

As the family continues to request privacy, fans and colleagues across Bollywood have expressed solidarity and well-wishes for Dharmendra’s recovery, hoping the actor—fondly known as the “He-Man of Bollywood”—returns home soon.
