PML-N’s Bilal Farooq Tarar has been elected unopposed as a member of the National Assembly (MNA) from NA-66 Wazirabad, following the withdrawal of candidates from other parties.
The official notification was issued by Returning Officer Shabbir Hussain Butt under Form 34, confirming Tarar’s uncontested victory.
The by-election, originally scheduled for November 23, was rendered unnecessary after no other candidate remained in the race.
PTI candidate withdraws
According to election officials, PTI’s Muhammad Ahmed Chattha, who was initially expected to contest, announced his withdrawal from the race as per his party’s policy, paving the way for an uncontested win for the PML-N nominee.
PPP backs PML-N
The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had earlier announced its support for the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in the NA-66 Wazirabad constituency, further consolidating Tarar’s position and demonstrating cooperation between the coalition partners at the federal level.
Bilal Farooq Tarar’s political background
Bilal Farooq Tarar, the brother of federal minister Atta Tarar, was awarded the PML-N ticket in place of former MNA Dr. Nisar Cheema.
A lawyer by profession and a prominent figure within the PML-N’s younger leadership, Bilal Tarar was previously elected as a MPA in 2018, but lost the provincial seat in the 2023 general elections. His unopposed victory in NA-66 Wazirabad marks his return to parliamentary politics, this time at the national level.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz congratulated Bilal Farooq Tarar on being elected unopposed.
In her message, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz extended her best wishes to Bilal, commending his unopposed victory as a reflection of public confidence in his leadership and the PML-N.
“Bilal Farooq Tarar’s election without opposition is clear proof of the people’s trust and faith in him,” she said.
