A local court on Monday sent YouTuber Saad-ur-Rehman - popularly known as Ducky Bhai - to jail on a 14-day judicial remand in a case related to the promotion of an online gambling application.
Judicial Magistrate Naeem Wattoo of Lahore’s District Court rejected the plea of the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) National Cyber Crime Wing seeking an additional eight-day physical remand of the accused.
Court proceedings
During the hearing, Assistant Director Shoaib Riaz, the investigating officer, argued that a mobile phone, laptop, digital account links, and currency had been recovered from the YouTuber, and further recoveries were expected.
On these grounds, the FIA sought an extension of his physical remand.
However, after hearing the arguments, the magistrate dismissed the request and ordered that the accused be sent to jail on judicial remand.
Background of the case
Ducky Bhai was arrested on August 17 after a case was registered against him by the National Cyber Crime Agency on the complaint of the state, accusing him of advertising a gambling app on social media platforms.
Since his arrest, his physical remand had been extended six times before Tuesday’s decision.
