The Speaker of the Punjab Assembly on Saturday suspended 26 opposition lawmakers for 15 days following their protest during Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s presence in the House.
During Friday’s session, the opposition chanted slogans, raised placards, and disrupted proceedings.
Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan termed the behaviour a violation of assembly rules and ordered disciplinary action.
“This House cannot be allowed to descend into chaos,” said the speaker, adding that order must be maintained.
The opposition termed the move undemocratic and announced a protest. A PTI leader said, “Even if you expel them for 15 years, the war against the government will continue.”
Meanwhile. PML-N lawmakers defended the decision, calling it necessary to preserve decorum.
