Renowned wedding photographer Irfan Ahson, known for covering high-profile weddings like those of Atif Aslam and Junaid Safdar, has opened up about the growing and bizarre trend of throwing cash at weddings in Pakistan.
His revelations have sparked conversations online about what happens behind the glamorous scenes of elite weddings.
In a recently shared video, Ahson spoke about how this act, often considered a display of wealth and festivity, can be deceptive. He recounted an incident in which the hosts explicitly instructed the qawwals not to collect the floor money during a wedding. Instead, the hosts assured them that they would collect and hand over the money at the end. However, after family members showered millions of rupees in the air and collected it in bags, the promised money was never given to the artists.

In another disturbing case, singer Malkoo was reportedly paid with fake currency as floor money. Police stopped him after discovering the counterfeit bills, unaware that he had used them to refuel his vehicles.

Ahson’s team also revealed that the dollars thrown at such events are often just one-dollar bills, never in higher denominations, adding to the illusion of extravagance without real value.
This growing trend not only reflects social inequality but also highlights how performers and artists are often exploited in the name of celebration and status.
