Gamers around the world were hit with disappointing news as Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive officially confirmed the delay of Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6). Originally slated for a Fall 2025 release, the highly anticipated game will now launch on May 26, 2026.
In a statement released on social media and in a press release, Rockstar explained the reason behind the delay: the need for additional development time to meet — and hopefully exceed — the high expectations of fans. The developers emphasized their commitment to delivering a polished, high-quality experience, stating that a little more patience is needed while they fine-tune the game.
This marks the first official delay for GTA 6 since its announcement in December 2023. Although many fans speculated that a delay was likely, the confirmation still left the gaming community reeling. Until now, Rockstar had remained silent following the release of the game’s first trailer nearly 18 months ago.
Despite the delay, fans now have a confirmed launch date to look forward to, and Rockstar appears determined to make the wait worthwhile. With over a decade since the release of GTA V, expectations for the next installment in the blockbuster franchise are sky-high.
Now, all eyes remain on Rockstar as the countdown to May 26, 2026, begins.
