The Chinese Foreign Ministry has issued a statement reaffirming Beijing’s support for Pakistan in the aftermath of the Pahalgam incident.
The statement expressed China’s full understanding of Pakistan’s legitimate security concerns and strongly supported Islamabad’s efforts to safeguard its sovereignty and security interests.
China also reiterated its support for a fair and timely investigation into the tragic attack in Pahalgam, where 26 tourists were killed by gunmen in occupied Kashmir four days ago.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry emphasised the importance of impartiality in the investigation.
The ministry urged both Pakistan and India to exercise patience and pursue dialogue as the path to resolving outstanding issues between the two nations.
Chinese FM urges both sides to exercise restraint
Earlier, during a telephonic conversation with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Mr Wang expressed China's solidarity with Pakistan, stressing that combating terrorism is a shared responsibility of the international community.
Mr Dar briefed his Chinese counterpart on the evolving situation after the Pahalgam attack in occupied Kashmir, where 27 tourists were killed. He conveyed Pakistan’s firm opposition to terrorism in all its forms and reiterated Islamabad’s commitment to preventing any escalation of tensions in the region.
In the wake of the attack, Indian media outlets levelled allegations against Pakistan without providing evidence, a charge Islamabad strongly denied. Pakistan demanded a transparent investigation into the incident and offered its cooperation, while condemning India’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty as a provocative step. Pakistan also announced countermeasures, including the closure of its airspace to Indian aircraft.
The Chinese foreign minister emphasized that disputes between Pakistan and India do not serve the interests of either nation and warned that continued hostilities could undermine regional peace and stability.
He urged both sides to exercise restraint, engage in dialogue, and seek peaceful resolutions through diplomatic means.
“Supporting Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts is part of China’s broader commitment to regional peace and stability,” Mr Wang was quoted as saying. He also reiterated China's backing for Pakistan’s "reasonable security concerns" and pledged support for safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Mr Dar welcomed China’s stance and assured that Pakistan remained focused on handling the situation with responsibility, maintaining close communication with Beijing and the broader international community.
The exchange between the two top diplomats comes at a critical time when the threat of further escalation looms large over South Asia, underscoring the need for restraint and constructive engagement to preserve regional stability.
Pakistan to welcome foreign mediation to de-escalate Indo-Pak tensions
Meanwhile, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has strongly rejected India's allegations against Pakistan regarding the recent Pahalgam attack in India-held Kashmir, calling it a “fabricated drama” aimed at restoring Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s political reputation.
In an exclusive interview with Samaa TV from Sialkot, Khawaja Asif said that many voices within India itself are questioning Modi's intentions, suggesting that the incident was orchestrated for political gain. He urged the formation of an international commission, preferably under the United Nations or involving regional powers, as suggested by the prime minister, to independently investigate the matter.
"The Pahalgam incident is a complete lie, just like nothing substantial came out of Pulwama," Asif stated, adding that Pakistan has full trust in international forums and is ready for a transparent inquiry.
