A new survey has placed the late Queen Elizabeth II as the most popular British monarch in nearly a millennium - while King Charles III’s ratings remain comparatively modest.
The poll, conducted by YouGov, assessed public perceptions of 43 rulers of England and Britain dating back to 1066. The late queen, who reigned for over 70 years, secured an overwhelming 82% approval rating, with only 8% of respondents holding an unfavorable view of her tenure.
Queen Victoria emerged as the second most popular monarch, receiving a 62% approval rating, while her detractors stood at 12%.
Meanwhile, King George VI, father of Queen Elizabeth II, was ranked third with 48% favourable opinions and just 9% negative views.
King Charles III, who ascended to the throne following his mother’s passing in September 2022, received a 57% approval rating.
However, a significant 30% of respondents expressed a negative opinion about his reign, impacting his overall standing in the survey. The 75-year-old monarch ranked seventh overall with a net score of +27.
