Pakistan Railways has announced a 5% increase in train fares due to the rising cost of petroleum products. A formal notification has been issued regarding the fare hike.
According to the notification, the revised fares will be applicable from February 5, 2025. The 5% increase will apply to tickets for all train classes, including salon services and outsourced trains.
Railway officials stated that the fare adjustment was necessary due to increasing fuel prices. However, passengers have expressed mixed reactions to the hike. While some commuters see it as an additional burden amid rising inflation, others believe that the quality of railway services should also improve with the increased fares.
It is worth noting that Pakistan Railways has previously adjusted fares in response to fuel price hikes.
