Different parts of Punjab experienced light to heavy rain accompanied by a cool breeze, thunder and lightning for the second consecutive day, causing a further dip in the mercury level from a day before.
The showers signalling the onset of the winter season were reported in Hafizabad, Burewala, Nankana Sahib, Gujrat, Sharaqpur and their adjacent areas, turning the weather pleasant and providing a much-needed respite from the rising temperatures.
Rain also went on in Gujrat since late night, which has inundated main roads, suspended power supply in many areas and caused trouble for commuters.
Various parts of Lahore experienced heavy rain with cold winds, including Dharampura, Garhi Shahu, The Mall road, Johar Town, Gulberg, Raiwind Road, Kot Lakhpat, Shadman, Jail Road, Lawrence Road, Lakshmi Chowk, Kalma Chowk, Ferozepur Road, Model Town, Cantt, Peco Road and their adjoining areas. The continuous rain inundated low-lying areas.
The maximum rainfall was reported in Gulshan-e-Ravi with 97 millimetres, followed by Iqbal Town 54mm, Lakshmi Chowk 66, Johar Town 54mm, Jail Road 19mm, Gulberg 57mm, Upper Mall 33, Mughalpura 15mm, and Nishar Town 54mm.
The rainfall coupled with cold winds continued since early morning. The turn in the weather has also led to a decrease in the levels of smog and pollution. This has also reduced the air quality index of Lahore to 102, taking the city to the 14th spot in the most polluted cities in the world, down from the top slot it has maintained for months.
However, the pleasant weather has also once again caused over 30 feeders of LESCO to trip, hampering power supply to many areas.
According to the weather forecast division, rainfall is likely to continue all day in Lahore, while there will be some improvement in the weather from tomorrow.
