Kashmiris across the globe are observing Black Day on October 27 to mark the anniversary of the 1947 military action in Jammu and Kashmir. The observance commemorates the day when Indian forces entered the region, an action that Kashmiris consider unauthorized.
Mir Waiz Umar Farooq, speaking at a Friday prayer congregation, emphasized the Hurriyat Conference's commitment to finding a peaceful solution to the Kashmir dispute. He stressed that lasting peace and development in the region depend on addressing the long-standing Kashmir conflict.
The day serves as a reminder of United Nations resolutions regarding the Kashmir dispute. The Hurriyat Conference leadership continues to advocate for dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution mechanisms, maintaining that military presence in the region has led to increased difficulties for the local population.
During his address, Mir Waiz also called for the immediate release of detained Kashmiri leaders. He reiterated that the Hurriyat Conference has consistently emphasized peaceful approaches to resolve the dispute.
