Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Founder Imran Khan expressed strong views on the recent revival of amendments to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) laws, calling it an embodiment of elite culture and a pathway to national destruction.
In an informal conversation with journalists at Adiala Jail on Saturday, Imran Khan criticized the selective application of justice, saying that the revival of NAB amendments was an elite culture and a path to destruction.
"A small elite faction has got its references worth billions waived off," he remarked, emphasizing the perceived disparity in the application of accountability laws.
He advocated for the restructuring of NAB, proposing that the bureau be made independent and brought under the jurisdiction of the Supreme Judicial Council to ensure impartiality. "The NAB should be subordinated to the Supreme Judicial Council and made independent and autonomous," Imran Khan asserted.
Highlighting the need for justice in the country, Imran Khan expressed his frustration with the current state of affairs. "The country needs justice; we are not sheep, we are human beings," he stated.
Imran Khan also revealed that he had been approached by authorities requesting the postponement of a rally scheduled for August 22, to which he reluctantly agreed. He claimed he was assured that there would be no disruptions to the planned September 8 rally.
"However, now we're hearing that obstacles are being erected in the way of the Islamabad rally," the former prime minister remarked.
