The Power Division has dismissed recent reports suggesting the establishment of separate courts and police stations to tackle power theft as unfounded.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Power Division clarified that there is no truth to the claims circulating in both mainstream media and social media about plans to set up specialised judicial and policing institutions to address electricity theft.
The statement stressed that the Power Division has no such plans under consideration. Instead, the federal government is intensifying its campaign against power theft by utilising existing law enforcement agencies.
The focus remains on leveraging these agencies to combat theft effectively without incurring additional costs on consumers.
Recent reports suggested that the government was contemplating the creation of separate legal and enforcement bodies specifically for dealing with electricity theft.
However, the Power Division’s statement refutes these claims, reaffirming that no separate budget will be allocated for this purpose, and any expenses related to the campaign against power theft will not be passed on to the public.
