Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) top brass on Sunday called upon the Supreme Court to take suo motu notice of the recent arrests of its members, following the party's victory in a case regarding reserved seats.

At a press conference in Islamabad, PTI Secretary General and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub and other PTI leaders expressed grave concerns over the current political situation.

“The path these people are taking the country on will only lead to destruction. God save Pakistan from destruction; new elections are the only solution to the problems in the country,” Ayub stated.

He raised alarms about the mysterious disappearances and ill-treatment of party members, emphasizing the undermining of parliamentary importance.

Ayub cited the example of Sheikh Waqas Akram's mother, who has been implicated in a legal case, as an illustration of the government's purportedly unconstitutional and illegal actions.

He warned the government to reconsider its approach, as the PTI plans to announce its future course of action in an upcoming party meeting.

Former Speaker of the National Assembly and PTI leader, Asad Qaiser, also condemned the government's alleged coercion tactics.

“Our 45 MNAs are being specifically targeted to change their loyalty, with offers of ministries and money. If they refuse, they face pressure from anti-corruption agencies. The Supreme Court must take suo motu action on this matter, as it constitutes contempt of their decision,” Qaiser asserted.

The former NA speaker also announced a PTI rally on August 5 to protest the illegal arrest of Imran Khan and to address the issue of inflation. “I ask all Pakistanis to participate in these demonstrations fully,” he urged.

Supporting Jamaat-e-Islami on the issue of Independent Power Producers (IPPs), Qaiser called for a review of the agreements with IPPs, stating that the burden of inflated bills is unbearable for the people.
