Jamtiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) lawmaker Noor Alam Khan submitted an amendment bill to the National Assembly to ban the appointment of a person with dual citizenship as a judge of the Supreme Court (SC).
Noor Alam Khan of JUI-F has suggested in a private constitutional amendment bill that a person with dual citizenship could not be appointed as a judge of the superior courts.
The Bill proposed amendments to Articles 177, 193, and 208 of the Constitution.
As per the proposed amendment in Article 177, a person holding dual citizenship shall not be appointed a judge of the Supreme Court. According to the Bill, a person with dual citizenship cannot become a high court judge proposed amendment to Article 193. Article 208, a person with dual citizenship could not work in any court.
The bill stated judges who have dual citizenship put the interests of their country of origin at stake.
“Under the Constitution, there is a need to ensure the loyalty of judges to the state. Judges of the Supreme Court and High Court should have stakes in the country in which they hold office in an authority,” the proposed bill stated.
Noor Alam Khan, a member of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, submitted a private constitutional amendment bill to the National Assembly Secretariat.
