A significant meeting of the National Action Plan Implementation Review Committee was convened at the National Counterterrorism Authority (Nacta) Headquarters, presided over by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. The meeting addressed crucial matters aimed at bolstering security measures and combating criminal elements across Pakistan.
The meeting decided to conduct a major joint operation against robbers and criminal elements in the katcha area. Naqvi emphasized that this operation will aim to permanently eradicate nefarious elements from the region, with the utilization of modern technology, including drones, for enhanced efficacy.
The minister said all intelligence information has been collected regarding the katcha area.
Moreover, he said good progress had been made in the past few months to prevent trafficking, claiming that due to the actions of the institutions concerned, there has been a significant reduction in smuggling. "All institutions should ensure strict legal action against traffickers through a joint strategy," Naqvi stressed.
Additionally, discussions were held to provide modern technology to police forces nationwide, emphasizing the importance of equipping institutions with modern tools to combat terrorism effectively.
Furthermore, the security arrangements taken for Chinese citizens were reviewed, including the imposition of restrictions on movement for those not adhering to prescribed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). All the provincial police chiefs gave a detailed briefing on measures for the security of Chinese citizens.
The forum also reviewed the foolproof security arrangements to be adopted in Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore during the upcoming visit of the Iranian president.
Naqvi stressed the need for 100% implementation of SOPs for the security of Chinese nationals by the police and other security agencies, warning against any negligence in this regard. "Strict disciplinary action will be taken for negligence in implementing the SOPs for the protection of foreign nationals," he declared.
In concluding remarks, Minister Naqvi affirmed the federation's commitment to providing full support to provinces in the fight against terrorism and ensuring the safety of all citizens and foreign nationals residing in Pakistan.
The meeting concluded with a resolve to continue collaborative efforts to strengthen security measures and uphold law and order across the country, underscoring the government's unwavering determination to combat crime and terrorism.
Key stakeholders, including the interior secretary, Nacta chief, and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director general, were present, alongside home secretaries and inspectors general from all four provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The Nacta national coordinator, and teams from the National Action Plan, and intelligence agencies also participated in the meeting.
