In a bid to prevent the Senate chairman and deputy chairman election, five senators of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have filed a constitutional petition in the Islamabad High Court.
However, their efforts faced objection from the Registrar's Office, directing them to refer the matter to the Peshawar High Court, which is already hearing a similar case regarding Senate elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Among the senators petitioning the Islamabad High Court are Zarqa Taimur, Saifullah Abro, Falaknaz Chitrali, Fauzia Arshad, and Saifullah Niazi. Their plea contends that Senate elections have not taken place in KP, thus urging the court to halt the elections for chairman and deputy chairman until the province's polls are conducted.

However, the Registrar's Office cited ongoing proceedings in the Peshawar High Court regarding the Senate election in KP, suggesting the petitioners pursue the matter there.
In parallel, the PTI has submitted a similar request to the Senate Secretariat, emphasizing that Senate formation is constitutionally important. It also alleged that the Election Commission of Pakistan's postponement of elections in KP deprived the province of its rights and the ECP did not fulfil its responsibilities.

The petition argues that the process of electing the chairman and deputy chairman should be deferred until Senate elections are conducted in KP.
Furthermore, the Sunni Ittehad Council had also lodged a comparable application with the election commission, echoing concerns over the delayed Senate elections in KP and its implications for constitutional representation.
