KARACHI: Police officer Shafiq Tanoli, who was martyred in today’s suicide attack in Karachi, was on the hit-list of outlaws for his vital role against terrorists, SAMAA reported.

Tanoli, who escaped two attacks on his life, was suspended on court orders for a raid in Clifton area and was made Sub Inspector after demotion.

For being on the frontline against criminals, Tanoli had been facing threats from armed wings of political parties, banned outfits, gang war elements, Taliban, Lashka-e-Jhangi and other terrorist groups for carrying out several operations against them.

Reports said Tanoli eliminated over 30 terrorists in six months. He recently arrested three banned outfit members involved in assassination of 23 police officers in Karachi.

Shafiq Tanoli was attacked twice in Maripur area.

On Thursday, a suicide bomber blew himself up near Tanoli’s residence in city’s Old Sabzi Mandi area. The blast killed the police official and three others, including his two bodyguards Jalal and Daood.

Nobody has so far claimed responsibility for the latest bomb attack in the city plagued for years by sectarian, ethnic and political violence.   - SAMAA
