A Pakistani man, accused of raping a woman together with his compatriot friend after luring her with a ride, was sentenced to one year in jail in Dubai on Tuesday, local media reported.

The 23-year-old, who works as an office assistant, is believed to have met the Filipina online. His friend, a 26-year-old clerk, was also given a one-year jail sentence.

According to Khaleej Time, they had been initially accused of raping the woman in their car and stealing her mobile phones and Dh3,000 in cash.

However, the Court of First Instance ruled the sexual act was not rape but consensual and convicted them of an illicit consensual sex charge.

They earlier pleaded not guilty to the charges. They will be deported after completing their jail terms, as per the court’s order.

The court also ordered that they be referred to the Court of Misdemeanors on the theft charge.

The incident took place on March 11.

An Initial forensic report showed the victim’s pregnancy test came positive. But she was then supposed to undergo some blood tests and other examination to confirm those results.
