Snowfall dips mercury below -09°C

SKARDU: A recent wave of winter snowfall in northwestern areas dropped mercury up to 9 degree centigrade in Skardu.

According to details, the snow falling in Skardu was recorded up to four feet on Thursday, crippling routine life in mountainous areas and compelling locals to stay inside their homes.

The locals were also facing acute shortage of eatables, medicines and other facilities.

Due to this extreme cold weather people of Gilgit-Baltistan are moving towards other parts of country like Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Karachi.

Synoptic Situation:

A shallow westerly trough is affecting northern parts of the country and likely to persist during next 24 hours.

Next 24 hrs:

Mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country. However, light rain (with light snowfall over the hills) is expected at isolated places in Malakand, Hazara, Mardan, Peshawar, Rawalpindi divisions, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.

Foggy condition is likely to prevail in plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh during morning hours.

Next 48 hrs:

Mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country.

However, light rain (with light snowfall over the hills) is expected at isolated places in Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.  Foggy condition is likely to prevail in plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh during morning hours.

Past Weather:

Weather remained cold and dry in most parts of the country. However, light rain occurred in Zhob, Quetta and Karachi divisions.

Skardu -08°C, Parachinar -08°C, Kalam, Gupis -06°C, Astore -05°C, Kalat, Hunza, Dir -03, Malamjabba, Gilgit, Chitral -01°C. – Samaa
