NEW DELHI: India is mulling a law to deal with the issue of spot-fixing in sport following last week's arrest of cricketers and bookmakers, government officials said on Monday.
Former India test bowler Shanthakumaran Sreesanth and two other players were arrested along with 11 bookmakers on Thursday on suspicion of spot-fixing in the country's ongoing Twenty20 league.
The cricket board immediately suspended the trio, who have been accused of taking money to concede a certain number of runs in a particular over.
Law Minister Kapil Sibal has consulted sports minister Jitendra Singh ....

WELLINGTON: New Zealand's media were muted in their reaction to their side being bundled out for just 68 runs to give England a 170-run victory in the first test at Lord's on Sunday, instead turning their focus towards the second match in Leeds.
Their second innings score, sparked by Stuart Broad's career-best figures of seven for 44, was New Zealand's ninth-lowest in their 83-year test history.
Unlike the furore that enveloped the team when they were bundled out for 45 by South Africa in January, however, the outcry on Monday was more restrained.

SKARDU: Samina Baig, 21, became the first Pakistani woman to conquer Mount Everest.
According to details, Baig accomplished her mission in five stages during which his elder brother Mirza Ali Baig was with
her.
Baig, who belongs to Hunza valley, hoisted Pakistani flat at the top of Mount Everest, some 8,848 meters above the seal
level.
Baig set off the historic mission on April 1. She began her mountaineering career in 2010. – SAMAA....

LONDON: Stuart Broad took seven wickets to rip through the New Zealand batting order and bowl England to an emphatic 170-run victory on the fourth day of the first test at Lord's on Sunday.
The touring side were skittled for 68 in just 22.3 overs, putting England 1-0 up in the two-match series and giving them the perfect start to a summer in which they also host Australia in five Ashes tests.
New Zealand, chasing 239 for victory after bowling England out for 213 in their second innings, collapsed to 29 for six at lunch and Broad and James Anderson finished them off 45 minutes into the afte....

EDINBURGH: The second and final one day international between Pakistan and Scotland has been abandoned due to rain, SAMAA reports on Sunday.
Pakistan won the first one-day by 96 runs.
The tourists enjoyed some useful batting practice as captain Misbah-ul-Haq top-scored with 83 not out, while opener Imran Farhat made 49.
Saeed Ajmal and Junaid Khan both took three wickets for Pakistan as Scotland were skittled out in reply.
Nasir Jamshed went for 20 before Scotland’s Haq claimed his first wicket of the day, when Josh Davey caught Mohammad Hafeez at backward point. SAMAA....

LONDON: Paceman Tim Southee claimed three late wickets as New Zealand reduced England to 180 for six on a dramatic third day of the first test at Lord's on Saturday.
A patient third-wicket partnership of 123 between Joe Root and Jonathan Trott looked to have put the home team in control but the Kiwis grabbed four wickets for 12 runs in the final session to give themselves a scent of victory.
England, who earlier in the day bowled the tourists out for 207 in their first innings, lead by 205 runs with two days remaining.

LONDON: England's pace attack sliced through the New Zealand tail to dismiss the touring side for 207 on the third morning of the first test at Lord's on Saturday.
James Anderson, fresh from taking his 300th test wicket on Friday, completed figures of five for 47 and Steven Finn took four for 63 as England secured a first-innings lead of 25 runs.

SYDNEY: Cricket Australia is to investigate an extraordinary Twitter outburst by opening batsmen David Warner that attacked two senior Australian cricket journalists.
The 26-year-old Warner criticised News Limited journalists Robert Craddock and Malcolm Conn in an expletive-filled tirade, which has created headlines in Australia.

EDINBURGH: Pakistan effortlessly secured a 96-run victory over Scotland in their opening one-day international against Scotland in Edinburgh, sealing 1-0 win in two-match ODI series, SAMAA reported Saturday.
