Senate adopts unanimous resolution against blasphemous movie

Staff Report
ISLAMABA: The Senate’s Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting unanimously adopted a resolution against the blasphemous US film and demanded the government to take up the issue with the United Nations, SAMAA reports Wednesday.

The senate body session chaired by Kamil Ali Agha took stock of the affairs relating the subsidiary departments of the information ministry.

Senator Farhatullah Babar tabled the resolution stating that the desecrating anti-Islam film is a calculated attempt to incite Muslims; hence, it is an extremist action.

The resolution states extremism and militancy does not mean physical torture alone, as lack of tolerance and sacrilege to religions is also tantamount to extremism and the committee condemns this obnoxious act in strongest words.

The resolution demanded the government to formally take up the issue with the United Nations to chalk out special plans for religious and cultural harmony.

Any discriminatory approach over the issue will stand as violation of the UN Charter, the resolution added. -SAMAA
