Overnight Karachi violence claims another 10 lives

KARACHI: At least ten people were killed overnight in target killing incidents in the metropolis, triggering panic among the people in the run up to Eidul Fitr, SAMAA reports Saturday.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh, Fayyaz Ahmed Laghari issued directives for high alert in the city, as security has been beefed up at all sensitive places including mosques, imambargahs and markets.

Though police and the Rangers were on high alert on the occasion of Jummatul Wida (the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadhan) in Karachi, terrorists gunned down at least ten people within a couple of hours late Friday.

Over six saboteurs riding motorbikes opened indiscriminate fire near Disco Morr area of North Karachi, killing five people.

Additional Inspector General Karachi Iqbal Mehmood, the deceased include Shaukat Mukhtar, Naveed Shehzad, Syed Atif Ali, Zahoor Ahmed and Sharjeel Ali.

Talking to media while visiting the bloodshed spot, AIG Iqbal informed that police have been put on high alert across the city.

According to Deputy Inspector General West Naeem Akram, casings of at least 14 bullets were garnered from the killing site. The DIG West said specific sort of weaponry is being used in the sustained target killing incidents the city.

In a firing incident near a mosque in North Karachi Sector-5C-4, three people—Yahya Khan, Mujahid and Faizan—were killed.

Earlier, two men—Qari Abdus Shakir and Qari Abdul Asif—were shot to death at Water Pump. The enraged protesters staged demonstration on Shahra-e-Pakistan against the killings.

Meantime, police and the Rangers, while baton-charging and shelling the protesters, took in custody over six suspected people.

Directives fro massive security arrangements have been directed for the funeral of the deceased to be held today. SAMAA
