No hike in POL prices, no load-shedding on eve of Eid

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: The federal petroleum minister on Monday announced not to increase petroleum prices on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, SAMAA reports.

The POL prices are weekly reviewed in the country following a recent decision of the Federal Cabinet and an increase in the rates was likely this week.

However, Advisor to Prime Minister on Petroleum and Natural Resources, Dr. Asim Hussain, announced today that prices of petroleum products would remain unchanged for 15 days, irrespective of the increase recommended by Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).

He said President Asif Ali Zardari had advised to stable POL prices on the account of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Separately, water and power ministry decided not to carry out load-shedding from August 20 to 22.

Sources said power companies have been directed to implement the decision and make a new schedule for power load-shedding.

The Eid is likely to be celebrated across the country on Aug 20. -- SAMAA
