Defense ministry rejects missing persons’ figures

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: The Defense ministry has expressed reservations over missing persons’ figures and other facts, terming them as wrong, SAMAA reported Saturday.

A report, dispatched to the Parliament by Legal Cell of the defense ministry, has dismissed the facts and figures of missing persons as wrong.

The report said that even mentally-ill persons, who had left their houses, were also listed among the missing persons.

It said that families of those kidnapped for ransom got their cases registered against the law enforcement agencies.

The number of missing persons till Dec 31, 2010 was at 138, the report said, claiming 624 more were added to the list in just eight months since January 1, 2011.

Those who were killed in various terror incidents or went into hiding too were included in the list, it added. SAMAA
