Review petition filed against SC’s July 12 ruling

Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Wednesday filed a review petition against the Supreme Court’s ruling of July 12 in which the prime minister was asked to write the Swiss letter without seeking any advice.

The petition filed at the apex court pleaded that the order to the Prime Minister is contradictory to the Constitution which required him to seek advice from the quarters concerned over any such step in accordance with Article 90 and the Rules of Business of the National Assembly.

It should be mentioned here that the apex court directed former Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani to write a letter to the Swiss authorities to re-open graft cases against the President Asif Ali Zardari. However, the government did not carry out judicial orders on the pretext that the president enjoys immunity. - SAMAA
