Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: The federal government filed a review petition on Wednesday against the Supreme Court’s ruling which annulled the Contempt of Court Act 2012.
Abdul Shakoor Paracha, counsel of the federation, prepared this petition and forwarded it to the Attorney General Office.
The review petition was slated to be filed earlier but, owing to the busy schedule of the Attorney General Irfan Qadir, it could not be submitted.
According to sources, federation's review petition over annulment of the Contempt of Court Bill-2012 is expected to be filed in the Supreme Court tomorrow.
It should be mentioned here that Supreme Court (SC) last week nullified the new Contempt of Court Act 2012, which was introduced to save Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf the fate of former Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani.
It is pertinent to note here that the government rushed through the legislation process to adopt the new Contempt Act at both National Assembly and Senate which President Asif Ali Zardari signed into law on July 12. SAMAA
