LONDON: Australia cruised into the semi-final of the Olympics men’s hockey tournament, beating Pakistan 7-0 on Tuesday at Riverbank Arena, SAMAA reports.
Australia left Pakistan reeling after 4 back-to-back goals in the first half.
In the second half, Australians scored three more goals, while Pakistan failed to score any goal in the do or die match for the green shirts.
Tuesday’s debacle diminished Pakistan’s chances of making into semi-final despite their 5-4 victory against South Africa in a thrilling encounter on Sunday.
In the last three Olympics matches between the two countries, Australia had defeated the Green Shirts.
Australia leads the Olympic men's hockey Group A with 11 points.
Britain is currently second with 8 points and Spain is third with 7 points after the most recent match.
The Netherlands has already moved into the semi-final today by defeating South Korea 4-2. It was Netherlands' fifth successive win of the tournament.
