KARACHI: The metropolis continued to bleed on Monday, with two dead bodies recovered and three people killed in gang war infighting, SAMAA reports.
Police said unidentified miscreants hurled a hand grenade at residence of a local trader, Mian Naseer, in Defence Phase 1 area. However, it did not explode.
The bike-rider extortionists fled from the scene.
SSP Asif Eijaz Sheikh said the local trader had been threatened for extortion money for last two months, and the grenade was thrown just to terrify the trader and his family.
Meanwhile, Federal Interior Minister, Rehman Malik held out the assurance that secret agencies had been ordered to take stern action against the extortion mafia.
In a separate incident, two criminal groups clashed in Jahan Abad area within the remits of Pak Colony police station.
According to officials, armed men from Magsi group attacked house of a man of rival Lashari gang, killing two people in the clash.
The deceased were identified as Liaqat, 60, and his nephew, Ali Ahmed.
Police said a man of assailant groups was also killed but cronies took along his dead body.
Monday’s clash was result of a man’s murder in the same area yesterday. The rival group avenged the killing today by attacking house of their adversaries, source said.
The incident sowed panic in the vicinity, prompting police and Rangers to heighten their patrolling.
A tortured body of a 12-year-old girl was found from a nullah in Steel Town. Police said the body was at least 15 days old.
Another body of a 35-year-old man, bearing torture sings, was recovered from a nullah near a dental college in North Nazimabad.
