Supreme Court declares Contempt of Court Bill-2012 null, void completely

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan has declared new Contempt of Court Bill-2012 null and void completely today, SAMAA reported on Friday.

The court has stated in its brief verdict over all petitions against new Contempt of Court Bill-2012 that under Contempt of Court Act immunity is contradictory to the Article-25 of the Constitution.

It comes under power of the judiciary to transfer a case to any other court and this discretion cannot be rendered to the Parliament, the SC added in verdict.

The brief verdict states further that the Sub-Section-3 of Section-2 of the controversial law clashes with the Constitution while all sub-sections of Section-3 unclear.

The mode of appeal, given in new law, is a hurdle in serving justice and in case of appeal; suspension of verdict is also against the Constitution, the Supreme Court added further in its brief verdict over Contempt of Court Bill-2012, declaring that no law of court contempt can control the judiciary.
