Zardari directs PPP workers to gear up for ‘free and fair’ polls

Staff Report

KHAIRPUR: President Asif Ali Zardari reassured on Sunday that next general elections would be held on appropriate time, claiming that ruling Pakistan Peoples Party would sweep the polls across the country, SAMAA reports.

Addressing a gathering here in Khairpur, Zardari recalled the ‘sacrifices’ his party and Bhutto family rendered for people of this country and the democratic system.

He directed the party workers and lawmakers to kick off preparations for the upcoming general elections, saying that “supporting PPP is supporting Pakistan.”

Zardari said party workers and youths should not expect government jobs from the party but work hard and find other opportunities.

“This is not a party of jobs, but we consider the politics as worship…I have no government jobs to give you people neither should you expect. Though our economy is weak but it’s moving on despite a global meltdown,” Zardari said.

“Very soon the woes of public will come to an end due to our people-friendly policies,” he claimed.

“We are not afraid of jails. Former Prime Minister Gilani had been in jail for many years and present PM Raja Pervez Ashraf has also experienced it,” the PPP Co-Chairman said.

He assured ‘free’ and ‘fair’ polls in the country, claiming that his party would sweep with heavy majority sans any rigging.

“I assure you that elections will be held on time, free and fair. We don’t want any rigging. Neither it is our track record nor we like this practice. I hope that PPP will perform well and sweep in election,” the president said in his address to selected party office bearers.

He said the PPP always believed in the politics of democracy and never used back-door to come into power.

“Our reconciliation policy will continue. It has panicked our opponents,” Zardari said. -- SAMAA
