ISLAMABAD: The government has reportedly decided to file a review petition against Supreme Court’s July 12 orders in the NRO implementation case, which asks Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf to pursue multimillion dollar graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.
The decision came after the apex court today rejected the government’s request to review a directive to the PM to write letter to Swiss authorities for reopening of cases against Zardari.
“Under the new strategy, a review petition is likely to be filed on Wednesday,” sources said.
On July 12, the court had ordered PM Ashraf to write to Swiss government sans any consultation, and submit compliance report to the court till July 25.
In its order, a three-judge bench, headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, had warned the new PM, that the court could take any action if the letter was not written.
The PM has convened a meeting of the Federal Cabinet on Wednesday to review the case and discuss the future plan of action.
Federal Law Minister Farooq H. Naek will be briefing the cabinet about the government’s position on writing the letter. -- SAMAA
