Shiv Sena, Maharashtra parties oppose Indo-Pak cricket series

NEW DELHI: Indian radical group Shiv Sena on Monday announced that it would strongly oppose the year-end tour of India by Pakistani cricket team.

The ruling party in Maharashtra state of India, the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), also opposed the series that might resume after a gap of nearly five years in December this year.

MPCC president Manikrao Thackeray said Indian cricket board’s thinking and that of the people of the country did not match. “BCCI should take people feelings into consideration while making such decisions involving Pakistan.”

Shiv Sena leader Ramdas Kadam went a step ahead saying the party was firm on its old stand on playing with Pakistan.

"We are against playing cricket with Pakistan till it continues to support terrorism. It is a sin to play cricket with Pakistan," Kadam said.

BCCI today agreed to have three ODIs and two Twenty20 International matches between the arch-rivals.

Samajwadi Party's Maharashtra unit also toed the same line. -- AGENCIES
