ISLAMABAD: PML-N and ANP strongly opposed the Dual National Bill 2012, tabled in the Upper House on Tuesday.
Both PML-N and ANP staged a walk out from the session in protest against the bill.
Federal Law Minister Farooq H. Naek presented the 22th Amendment Bill 2012 regarding dual nationality in the Senate.
ANP’s Senator Haji Adeel, submitting a privilege motion, questioned the tabling of 22th Amendment Bill when the 21th Amendment Bill was yet to reach the Upper House.
Senate Chairman Nayyar Hussain Bokhari said that Senator Adeel could give his suggestions in the Standing Committee. His suggestion was supported by the federal law minister, who said that the members could make recommendations in the committee.
PML-N’s Senator Zafar Ali Shah said it was unconstitutional to hand over the bill to the Standing Committee without holding a debate.
Senator Raza Rabbani and Barrister Aitzaz Ashan also raised objections about the bill.
The session was adjourned till Wednesday, 5pm. SAMAA
