Army eliminated terrorists from Swat with local public support: Gen. Kayani

Staff Report

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Army eliminated terrorists from Swat with local public support and it will not allow the deserters to succeed in their ulterior motives, said Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani today.

According to an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release, the COAS visited Panakot area of Dir this day.

During visit he was briefed about the latest situation in Dir, with particular emphasis on measures being adopted against the threat posed by miscreants operating from safe havens across the border.

While interacting with officers and men, Gen. Kayani praised their high morale and sense of sacrifice. He also met the local elders and thanked them for their support, emphasizing the need for enduring partnership between Army and local population for bringing complete normalcy in the area.

The COAS categorically stated that Pakistan Army is committed to bringing peace and development of the area. He stressed that Army units deployed there will not leave till terrorists are defeated and smooth transition of responsibility to civil administration takes place.

On arrival, COAS was received by Commander Peshawar Corps, Lieutenant General Khalid Rabbani and other senior officers.  SAMAA
