ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet Wednesday approved the draft of Dual Nationality Bill 2012, allowing the lawmakers to possess the dual citizenships with no bar on them to take part in general elections.
The federal cabinet meeting under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, gave a go-ahead to the draft of Dual Nationality Bill 2012.
According to the draft of the bill, the citizens of Pakistan who possess dual nationalities will eligible to take part in the general election. The bill now will be tabled in the Parliament, for which, the Constitution will need to be amended.
Earlier, Federal Law Minister Farooq H. Naek briefed the cabinet over the draft of Dual Nationality Bill. Later on, the draft was adopted.
It should be mentioned here that the Supreme Court (SC) is hearing a petition against lawmakers who are found having citizenship of other countries also in addition to that of Pakistan. The apex court has hitherto suspended seven lawmakers from the assemblies. SAMAA
