Private TV channel attacked in Karachi, two injured

Staff Report

KARACHI: Armed men opened fire outside an office of a private TV in Karachi, injuring two people on Monday, SAMAA reports.

Reports said the drive-by attack took place near Guru Mandir where unidentified gunmen opened indiscriminate fires outside a private TV office, injuring a staffer and a security guard.

Police said the assailants could not be identified and that they managed to flee from the scene.

The same TV channel came under attack on May 12, 2007 during riots in the city when political parties announced rallies to welcome Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and leaders of journalist organizations have vehemently condemned the attack on Karachi-based private television. -- SAMAA
