New PM election: Makhdoom Shahab files nomination papers

Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: Makhdoom Shahabuddin and Raja Pervaiz Ashraf of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have submitted their candidatures for the election of new prime minister, SAMAA reports Thursday.

The PPP has also fielded Raja Pervaiz Ashraf as the cover candidate.

Earlier, President Asif Ali Zardari summoned the National Assembly session on June 22 to elect the new Prime Minister.

Earlier, different names of potential candidates were mulled over at the PPP’s meeting at the Presidency. However, the parliamentary party reposed their confidence in President Zardari for picking up any name for the post.

The National Assembly speaker will scrutinize the papers in the presence of the candidates, their proposers and seconders within an hour by 3pm.

The new Prime Minister will be elected at 5:30pm on June 22. SAMAA
