Nawaz: Gilani should have resigned earlier

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: PML-N President Nawaz Sharif said Wednesday that Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani should have resigned earlier by honoring the Supreme Court’s verdicts.

Addressing a high-level party meeting here, Nawaz Sharif said the government had wasted five precious years in litigation.

The former two-time premier said the office of Speaker, which requires request, was made controversial by the government by using it for personal gains.

He noted that the government had tried repeatedly to trigger a standoff among the state institutions. The PML-N, he said, would thwart all such plots.

Mr. Sharif added the government would not see this day if it had resolved public issues instead of sheltering corruption.

“Khawaja Asif took up several important issues of public interest in the Supreme Court and succeeded,” he said.

Chaudhry Nisar Ali, Raja Zafar ul Haq, Mushahidullah and other leaders attended the meeting. SAMAA
