After appeal, same verdict was to come: Aitzaz

Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: Former Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Senator Aitezaz Ahsan Wednesday said he suggested to the government to file an appeal against the contempt conviction.

Talking to media outside the Supreme Court (SC) premises, the counsel of former Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said the political leadership decided against filing an appeal against the conviction ruling of the apex court.

It should be mentioned here that a three-member bench of the Supreme Court (SC), hearing numerous identical petitions filed against the National Assembly Speaker’s ruling for not sending Gilani’s case to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), unseated him (Gilani) not only from his office of premiership but also from the membership of the Parliament with effect from April 26.

Ahsan said he pre-surmised the verdict in National Assembly Speaker’s ruling case, adding the same verdict would have been delivered even if an appeal had been moved. SAMAA

Pakistan Army and the civilian govt went on a collision course after Gilani sacked the defence secretary Khalid naeem considired close to army cheif general Keyani over memogate scandal,

Gilani's tenure also saw US Pakistan's plunge to an all time low, as the US conducted a unilateral raid to take out al qaida chief osama bin ladin.
