KARACHI: Legend singer and king of ‘ghazal singing’ Mehdi Hassan will be laid to rest tomorrow at Shah Muhammad Shah graveyard of the city, SAMAA reported Thursday.
His funeral will be held after Friday prayers at Al-Noor Society.
He passed away yesterday after protracted illness. He was 85.
Mehdi Hassan was born in Luna village in Rajasthan in 1927. His father Ustad Azeem Khan and uncle Ustad Ismail Khan were renowned classical musicians. Mehdi Hassan acquired early training in music from them. After his family migrated to Pakistan he tried his hand at a few professions but once he started getting acknowledged as a singer, he decided to adopt it as a career.
He was a trend setter in ghazal singing. Many singers followed him throughout sub continent.
Mehdi Hassan left nine sons, five daughter and thousands of fans behind him. SAMAA
