KARACHI: The Supreme Court, taking suo motu notice of the press conference conducted by Bahria Town boss Malik Riaz, heard the case against him today (Wednesday).
Heading the three-member bench hearing the suo motu case against the snub, Justice Shakirullah Jan read out the draft of the the real estate tycoon’s press conference.
The bench issued show-cause notice to Malik Riaz for conducting a press conference with derogatory remarks directed against the judiciary.
In its notice, the apex court asked Malik Riaz to appear before it on Thursday.
The court adjourned the hearing till tomorrow.
Earlier today, the informal full court session summoned by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammed Chaudhry, solicited the record consisting of draft (transliteration) and footage of Riaz’s press conference.
Later on after discussing the repercussions of the press conference, the apex court constituted a three-member bench to hear the suo motu case against Malik Riaz.
It should be mentioned here that Malik Riaz leveled charges against Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammed Chaudhry’s son Arsalan of receiving bribes and foreign trips’ sponsorships from him. However, Arsalan denied the charges and in a previous hearing before a two-member bench, pleaded the court to issue arrest orders of Malik Riaz. SAMAA
