KARACHI: The metropolis is today (Wednesday) observing a complete shutter-down strike against the unfettered and hitherto uncontrolled bhatta activities and target killings with shops and commercial hubs closed down.
The public transport is marked by its absence off the roads.
It should be mentioned here that the brother of former Sindh MPA hailing from Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was killed yesterday in Shershah’s scrap market. Protesting against the killings at the hands of bhatta mafia on call by All Karachi Trader Ittehad, the city closed its business centers and shops with various political and religious parties supporting the call.
The city’s usual busy and over-crowded hubs—including Tower, Kharadar, Joria Bazaar, Pan Mandi, Boulton Market, Jamia Cloth, Joona Market, Medicine Market, Kapra Market, Saddar, Electronics markets—are seen deserted today leaving the daily wages laborers on the in the lurch.
Doctors could not arrive in hospitals causing patients to be extremely troubled. Similarly, government offices are low in attendance.
Meantime, petrol pumps and CNG stations have been closed causing problems to the commuters. The traders warned that if they are not afforded with protection against the bhatta mafia, they will move on to go on strike for an indefinite period. SAMAA
