Malik Riaz rants: SC seeks record of press conference

Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) Wednesday sought the record of press conference held by business tycoon Malik Riaz.

An informal full court session headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammed Chaudhry brought under discussion the ‘suggested bomb blast’ against the judiciary by Malik Riaz.

After consultation with 11 judges of the full court session and contemplation over the repercussions of Malik Riaz’s press conference, the Chief Justice Chaudhry approved to call the record of yesterday’s press conference including the draft (transliteration) and footage of the news conference.

Earlier, Estate baron Malik Riaz appeared before the two-member bench hearing suo motu case against Dr. Arsalan, the son of the Chief Justice Chaudhry. However, later on after emerging from the court, he organized a press briefing and went on to 'implode the much talked blasts' against the CJP, complaining he was not heard at the court.

Full court session caused 45-minute delay in today’s court hearings.

Furthermore, the Chief Justice Chaudhry has called a full court session at 3pm on June 15 to discuss the behavior of different circles regarding the judiciary.

It should be mentioned here that the Chief Justice Chaudhry took suo moto notice over reports circulated in the electronic and social media about his son Arsalan Iftikhar. The reports alleged that Arsalan received million of rupees from the Bahria Town management under different pretexts in order to snag favor for Bahria Town cases pending with the apex court.

Earlier, the CJP Chaudhry on Thursday removed himself from the three-member bench hearing the case against his son. The bench currently consists of two members. The Chief Justice Chaudhry said the new bench will soon be formed to hear the case.

The reports accuse that Malik Riaz paid between Rs300-400 million to Dr Arsalan and also sponsored his foreign visits. SAMAA
