CJP met Riaz, but during suspension period: SC Registrar

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday clarified Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry’s meetings with business tycoon Malik Riaz who opened up the Pandora Box, directly hitting the CJP and his son Arsalan Iftikhar, SAMAA reports.

In a statement, Registrar Supreme Court, Dr. Faqeer Hussain, gave explanation of the meeting, saying that the CJP had met Riaz during his period of suspension.

“The CJP was being persuaded to meet President Asif Ali Zardari for restoration of his office and accept a bullet-proof vehicle which was offered by Malik Riaz. However, the Chief Justice flatly declined the two offers,” the statement said.
