GUJRANWALA: Enraged citizens Tuesday protested against an incident of police torture on a family consisting of seven members over a trifling issue of pigeon-flying in Phalia.
According to police sources, police personnel of Helan police check post, exasperated by pigeon-flying activities by children in Mandi Bahaud Din’s suburban area of Phalia, forced into house of a laborer Muhammed Boota and hustled along seven family members including women and children into the check post.
Boota’s family members were allegedly subjected to torture.
Flying in rage against the unwarranted manhandling of innocent people by police personnel, the local people assaulted the check post and running amok, set on fire valuable official record and motorcycles on road.
Additional heavy contingent of police was sent to the tumult site before long.
Meantime, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Amin, taking notice of the incident, suspended five police personnel including Incharge of the check post.
However, the protest demonstration still continued even the lapse of two hours. SAMAA
