ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammed Chaudhry Monday took suo motu notice of murder of five Kohistan women on news reports published in national newspapers.
It should be mentioned here that a local jirga ordered killing of five women who, expressing joy, clapped over dance of two boys during a wedding ceremony.
The apex court issued notices to chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Commissioner Hazara and Deputy Inspector General. Meantime, Attorney General has also been directed to submit his viewpoint.
The gory and heinous incident occurred in Kohistan’s Palas Valley during the night between May 30 and 31 when a local jirga ordered to kill four women and two boys after a video of the wedding came to the fore.
The video shows two boys dancing and the women clapping.
It should be mentioned here that the two boys have gone underground; while, the four women were detained in a room, where they were being showered with hot water. A woman relative was also assassinated along with the four on suspicion.
According to the sources, husband of a woman is an imam of a mosque in Rawalpindi. He produced his wife for murder after the jirga ruling. Another ill-fated woman was summoned from Muzaffarabad.
Though the city’s management came into action but, the women could not be saved from death penalty.
The apex court remarked a sentence like this stands contrary to Article-9 and 14 of the Constitution. SAMAA
