KARACHI: City traders Saturday took to streets in protest against bhatta (extortion) mafia activities in progress on Jamshed Road area of city and blocked the road by setting tires ablaze.

It should be mentioned here that a man was killed and several others injured in a hand grenade attack on a fish shop located on Jamshed Road late Friday night. The traders today pulled the shutters of their shops down and protested against the incident.

The people staged a protest demonstration and raised slogans. The traders said they are being given bhatta chits and threatened of dire consequences inciting grave panic among the trader fraternity, adding the government has failed to protect them thus far.

The traders stressed that practical steps are highly vital for the establishment of peace in the city instead of tall claims by the government. SAMAA
