LAHORE: Former cricketers today welcomed the appointment of opener Muhammad Hafeez as skipper of Twenty20 team for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka starting next month.
On Thursday, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) handed T20 captaincy to Hafeez but retained Misbah ul Haq as in-charge of Test and ODI teams.
Calling the PCB's decision as correct, former players said Misbah had led the team well in Tests and one-day internationals (ODIs), but felt that the Test skipper was not suitable for the Twent20 format.
Former skipper Moin Khan, Salim Yousuf and Shoaib Muhammad fully endorsed the appointment of Hafeez.
Jalal ud Din said the cricket board had no other option but Hafeez. He urged the PCB to groom a young captain for future.
Cricket circles hoped that Hafeez would prove to be good choice. SAMAA
